My kids will be in 3rd and 7th grade I have bought the Summer Bridge books for the last 2 years. We usually work on them each week day for 15 - 20 minutes. As far as reading we go to our local library weekly for the summer reading program and I help run our schools A.R. summer reading program so we are reading daily for 15 minutes at home and longer during the program days. Our school is A.R. program is 3 days a week and kids who particpate or earn 70% of their summer goal will get to have a pizza party in the fall. Both of my own kids enjoy reading so once they get started it's not too bad, just getting them started! Math is hard for my 7th grader so we have worked on facts and fractions, 3rd grader has reviewed telling time and facts also. I try to keep my own kids engaged during the summer but also try not to be too (School teacher like) as my two darling kids like to say. I always tell them that my mom or grandma worked with my brother and me during the summer too and she is not a teacher, it works some days.
