I have used Vis-A-Vis overhead markers and permanent markers. The Vis-A-Vis will wipe off very easily with just a wet paper towel. However, if the kids touch it...it will also smear. Therefore, I now write on my laminated posters with permanent marker. If I need to erase, I use the Expo marker cleaner like you buy at Wal-Mart. :) Spray it on the permanent marker and let it sit for about a minute. Then wipe it off. It will appear that it isn't going to come off at first...but keep wiping! It will then all begin to wipe right off.

I know another teacher who uses fingernail polish remover or hairspray to erase the permanent marker. However, I have found it to come off easier with the Expo marker cleaner. It does not leave any residue.
