modeled /shared writing
By Vanessa Crawford

Clip to ScrapBook
Hi Jill,

I always do modeled writing before the children are about to do writer's workshop (or journal writing-whatever you like to call it. I model what good writers do as I write. For example, I use the work wall for
words, I sound out words as best I can and underline these if I am unsure as to whether or not they are right, if I wanted to spell book, I would say outloud "I know that book rhymes with look and look is on the word wall so book must be b-o-o-k. I model strategies that I want them to use EACH day during writing time. It does not tke them long to use these. As for shared writing, we do this
when we write a letter to someone, or when we are doing other writing activities, morning message, writing a letter to someone etc. I hope I have helped!

Vanessa
