Could you explain the "free exploration" centers? I have plenty of materials, but they've been on a shelf all week 'cause I'm not sure what to do with them exactly. I've been struggling just to get my literacy centers going and I had read in I think Fountas & Pinell that you should only open a certain amount per week (three I think?). Does that include math centers? In other words is it overwhelming to open three literacy centers PLUS three math centers per week? I know it depends on the kids, but what has been your experience? I really need to get this stuff going bec. my kids are getting antsy w/the whole group stuff we're doing; they're at sooooo many different levels.
