We have "certificates" that the child gets if the parent attends. When you earn 25 certificates you get to pick a book from the basket in the principal's office. They also get chances to earn certificates throughout the school day, so it's not the only way to get them. It works for us, but I still think those same parents would be there even if there weren't an incentive. Door prizes are always good ways, too. Can you get businesses in your area to donate some? Even a cute little plant would be nice! You just give the parent a ticket when they arrive, and then draw the door prizes at the end (stop giving out tickets halfway through the evening, so people don't show up at the end just for the prize!). If you could do 3 doorprizes, you could do one at the beginning, another in the middle, and another at the end to break up the evening some (and make sure people are there for the entire meeting).
