Reading Coach
By Susan/IN

Clip to ScrapBook
Although I have not been labeled a "reading coach" by our district, I have been encouraged by administrators to work closely with classroom teachers in reading and writing through team teaching, in-services, and modeling
strategies for both students and teachers . Have you gone through literacy collaborative training? What expectations does your building/district have for you? I would be happy to share my thoughts/experiences from time to time. I just finished reading Becoming a Literacy Leader by Jennifer Allen. It was quite good and an easy read. I also have a book called the Literacy Coach's Handbook
at school (sorry can't remember the author) that might be helpful.

I am a Title I/Reading Recovery teacher. I have been in this position for 26 years and have given various workshops/in-services for parents, instructional assistants, and teachers in and out of my district and at various IRA conferences. I think you have to understand exactly what your district wants you to do; if they don't have a plan, you need to sit down with them and get one going.

Good luck to you! I will enjoy watching for your future posts.

Susan/IN
