Model - Practice - Reinforce - model - practice and talk about WHY you want them to be quiet in the hallways and take advantage of when a noisy class walks by your classroom how it impacts the learning and teaching. Once I told the kids why I wanted them to line up silently, they understood, and actually did it! But of course they'll forget later on in the year and we'll have the conversation again and practice how to do it!
