craft ideas By Julianne

Here are a couple of craft ideas to try:Give each group a red ink pad (you can make one from a paper towel moistened with liquid watercolor or poster paint). Have them use their thumbs to fill a page with red thumb prints. | Let the paper dry. Now they can turn each thumbprint into a ladybug by adding spots, legs, a little black head and antennae. Add other artistic touches such as grass or flowers for a finished picture. Have students do a watercolor wash on heavy white paper. When the paper is dry fold it in half and have students cut out a set of butterfly wings. You can use a pattern or show | | them how to cut the wings as a pair over the fold. (I always use a pattern with my young students. It saves tears.) Now have students bend a pipe cleaner in half, twist about 2/3 of the way up. Separate the two ends for antennae and glue it in place as the body, head and antennae.
