Clip to ScrapBook
Wow, Amy, I could've written your letter! I do the same thing - I use the Mailbox companion for my weekly newsletter (and put the homework sheet on the back of it for kids to write on). For open house I do a scavenger hunt
- it really helps to give them something to do. I stand at the door to greet everyone, and hand them the sheet that welcomes them and gives the directions for the scavenger hunt. I also have a bowl of mints on a table, with a volunteer sign-up sheet.

Although I teach 3rd grade, I'll attach you my parent letter so you can see what mine looks like, along with the scavenger
hunt open house sheet.

Also, a great way to keep in contact with parents is through email. I give each one a business card magnet attached to their parent letter. It has my email address. It sure is easier than spending 2 hours on the phone - some parents just like to talk! :) I also use the email to send out test reminders, field trips, etc... They love that!
