Chugging along
By Julianne

Clip to ScrapBook
Hi, Susan,
Welcome to Proteacher. I haven't done a train unit, but a couple of ideas come to mind.

Make a train engine to hang on your wall. I'd put it at the top of the classroom as a border. Then as you read books
to your students, write the name of the book on a train car and add it to your "reading train". You'll soon have a very long train circling your classroom. Students will be able to read the titles when they "read the room". You could also have each student make their own individual train from books they read during guided and independent reading time.

You can make a train for your

book area from boxes. Get three or four large boxes and have the students decorate them as train cars. Line them up in your book area so students can sit in them as they read.
