monetary gifts

I think that if it's normal to ask for monetary gifts, it's also normal to think of money as a gift automatically. However, I could NEVER bring myself to request money (or any other gift) for my own party, especially from my colleagues. As far as when to send the invites, again just my opinion.... wedding invites should ALWAYS be sent through the mail. I would mail them around the middle of August, allowing guests plenty of time to RSVP, but not so much time that they forget you.
