communication is key! By tia

the more communication i have with parents, the better!
my school has a school-wide monday folder system. our school has a monday newsletter and i do too. it has some constants (conversation starters, what are we learning, and important dates) and then some articles on "current events". i also started publishing student "articles" (reflections on current events like ice cream social, carnival, state testing...) as well as student writing like poetry or essays. i try to keep my writing conversational--writing with voice comes easily to me, so this isn't hard. i'll attach my first 2 newsletters.
our | | school has a back-to-school night for parents to meet with teachers--it's semi-formal where there are 2 sessions (if you have 3+kids, you have to divide and conquer!) and the teachers speak to the parents about curriculum and expectations. i am VERY thorough...my PowerPoint is over 50 slides long--i give parents hard copies of these to take notes and hold onto for reference--pretty much everything they need to know about the year is there--info on book orders, field trips, testing dates, extra credit, etc. one thing i tell parents at this time is that i prefer for them to call me by my first name.
