Construct models
By tweet

Clip to ScrapBook
For a Family math night several months ago, we had Geometric Construction as one of the center activities. The participants created 3-D shapes from pretzel sticks and marshmallows. We found this wasn't the sturdiest construction. gumdrops would have been better than the mini-marshmallows. Things worked better with regular size marshmallows, too. We had plastic models of shapes available for inspiration. We included ALL the plastic models, so the children could figure out on their own that they could not construct any of the shapes with curves--no cylinders, spheres or cones. You can also do the construction with toothpicks and peas that have been soaked to make them a little easier to poke with the toothpicks.
