I need help with an assignment! Please!

Alright. Normally I would not come here asking for help on an assignment for my graduate school classes, but I am drawing a big blank. I need someone to "bounce" ideas off of.

I am creating a unit on Inference using
the Backwards Design model. One requirement for the unit is to create a GRASP/ Performance task- authentic assessment. I could do it if this were a content area, but inferring?

I was thinking of creating something related to a mystery or detective. Something where students would solve a mystery and figure out the "bad guy's" motive. I was even thinking as setting it up
where a game company has approached our class to create board game using taped scenes (kind of like the old VCR version of Clue). Students (in small groups) would write skits of a crime scene (nonviolent) and perform them for classmates (the game players). Students (the game players) would then have to infer the guilty party and their motive.

However, my idea is WAY too murky. I am afraid my final goal (using inferencing) would get lost in the way of writing the skits and making them make sense.

Any ideas to help me clarify this? THANK YOU!
