Nice idea
By Ally

Clip to ScrapBook
When I first read your post, my initial thought was what a nice idea. It is great that you are thinking about how to include your students' parents.

The only concern I have is what if you get a parent who comes by
to "help" but ends up making a pest of themself? One year, I had my prep first thing in the morning, and once this one mum caught on that the kids went straight to the library on Tuesdays, she would come in and talk my ear off about various things going on in her life. It started out as concern for her son..."He might be tired today because..." but soon it was just her chatting about
whatever and I was her captive audience. After awhile, I started inventing excuses to leave right away (photocopying, meeting etc) so I would not have to spend my whole prep period listening to her rant about her life.

Mind you, that has only happened to me once, and if you feel like the parent group is, in general, fairly uninvolved, perhaps it won't be a concern for you, but it is something to consider.

Good luck with your move!
