Clip to ScrapBook
I also teach grade 3 and have a behaviour class this year so I've really had to keep routines in place.

I have daily work and routines set for first thing in the morning as well as after every recess. It really
helps my students who have a difficult time settling down to have something to focus on.

I change the daily work through the year so it doesn't become too boring. To begin the year we do Daily Language Review (a resource book I have). Then around Christmas or after our break I do move to group work for the first period. The students are put into 5 groups and so they rotate the
work they are to do each day. The groups include handwriting, journal writing, phonics, small group reading and vocabulary building. All the activities are ones they can do on their own. I work with the reading group.

Because we have Provincial tests in May and June - beginning in about April I move to review work that becomes daily work in the morning. So right now my students have one comprehension story to read each morning and then we review the story and answers.

For me the key is to restrict the movement in the room first thing in the morning to get everyone settled down. Once this has happened then we can move to more "unrestricted" activities.
