Morning routine
By tweet

Clip to ScrapBook
I also teach 3rd grade. I have a morning routing listed on a chart. It includes things like sharpening pencils, turning in homework, going to the bathroom. Listed last is Sit Down. We have math 1st period. When they
get to number 7(sit down), on the list, they get out their math folders and begin on the independent activities we start with daily. I will admit there is a lot of coming and going in my class first thing, but it's unavoidable. the kids can come into the room at 7:45, but the first bell doesn't ring until 8:00. Also, we have a lot of kids who eat breakfast at school, so there is a steady
stream of them coming in. I allow my students to go to the bathroom, get a drink before 8:00 with no restrictions to avoid lots of unnecessary getting up later. By 5 to 8 I am usually asking, "Are you at number 7 yet?" Then it's "Get to number 7 now." Everyone is expected to be seated and working by 8. we have morning announcements at 8:05.
