I have the morning routine posted. I go over it starting day 1. I call it Get Ready for the Day. I list what they need to do-in order. This includes sharpening pencils, because I don't want them up doing it at any other time. My kids usually get out a Warm Up journal. They copy a sentence from the board and make corrections using proofreading marks. These last couple of weeks they have handwriting packets. They are unbelievably excited over learning cursive before they go into 3rd grade. I show them on the overhead too. As they finish, they do DEAR. Not all get done at the same time and some are coming from breakfast. I wouldn't use centers at this time because I have them later during the Reading block.
