what worked in kindergarten
By PoohBear

Clip to ScrapBook
Water bottles.....they were labeled with the child's name and kept in a tub on the back counter. Students had to ask persmission to get a drink just as they used to when they went to the outside water fountain.

Had
a cup of popsicle sticks with the students names on them. To make sure I gave everyone a chance to answer questions, work problems on the board, choose a song to sing, etc, I would pull a name stick from the cup. Used sticks were put in a rubber band bundle until all the sticks had been used.

I have over 400 picture books. I put about 50 books out at a time and rotate each
month. I will keep particular class favorites on the shelf for more than one month.

Every child has a card in a pocket chart. If they have a good day with no time outs, I stamp the card. Every 5 stamps earns a treat (goldfish cracker, gummi bear, sticker, etc) A filled card (20 stamps) earns a prize from the prize box.

When I want their attention, I ring a bell. Everyone must stop and put their hands on their shoulders and look at me. Hands on the shoulders makes sure they do not continue to do whatever activity they are currently working on. It's a great way to make sure their attention is on you.
