what works
By bamateach

Clip to ScrapBook
As for the library I have mine seperated into tubs and love it! The kids have no problems getting them back into the correct tub because I have the tub labeled with colored construction paper or stickers. Ex: Pink square
is poetry, green is ABC/123 books, Black is Be Good Books (manners, etc..), Yellow is animals, You get the idea. My AR books are seperated by level. I teach the kids from day 1 that 2.1 level goes in te 2.1 tub. I also have author baskets identified by author's name. This works for me.

What works:
1. Posting a sign that you are only allowed to sharpen pencils from 7:30 until
the pledge. Love it! Hate to hear the pencil sharpener and this solved the problem. If it broke or they lost it they better have a friend. Also taught responsibility i think.

2. Center boxes - Everything students need to complette an activity at a center was put into a red tub.

3. Posting 3 center rules and reading them several times a week as a reminder. 1. Do not disturb the teacher. 2. Do not roam around the room. 3. Only whisper talking while working is allowed.

4. Using all the flyers and my classroom newsletter as functional reading at least once per week. This was done orally at times at the end of the day and also I made up questions and attached as homework occassionally.

Didn't Work:
1. Refillable literacy bags. Love the literacy bags for homework just need to improve them by making them more nonconsumable.
