salty water
By tia

Clip to ScrapBook
i don't know if this will help at all, but you could have a little lab set up to test the density (mass divided by volume--how much something weights compared to the space it takes up) of salt water vs. tap water. color
tap water one color and salt water another. stick clear 1/2 straws in modeling clay at a 45 degree angle, and drip the different liquid in with droppers. whichever liquid is more dense goes to the bottom (salt water). less dense goes to top. (salt water is heavier than tap water.) that explains why people float easier in salt water (oceans, Great Salt Lake). oops! i forgot to mention--if
you put the tap water in first, the salt water mixes and changes color--you have to put salt water in first and then tap water and then the 2 colors/waters will "layer" and stay separate. (this is a lab from a GEMS unit.)
