what works, what doesn't

Clip to ScrapBook
It's the end of another year and I am reflecting on what went well and what didn't. I would like to share a couple of my better ideas in hopes of getting some of yours - or of being warned away from bad ideas. Here are
some of my good ones: using restaurant carry-out menus or brochures from sight seeing attractions (amusement parks, musuems) to teach math and/or mapping skills. I get enough copies for a small group and then make up a quick worksheet with questions about money or locations or whatever. It makes a great center to do with a volunteer.
Another one is attach a monthly calendar to their
homework folder. At the end of everyday, I give a little sticker to everyone who had a good day to put on their calendar. If they had a bad day (talking, off task), they don't get a sticker. They LOVE the stickers and their parents can see right away how the day went. Now here is a bad idea: too many books in the class library. I got a good deal on ebay on a ton of new books plus some from Scholastic. More is not better. It just made a lot of housekeeping/storage headaches and no one could ever find a specific book. So, how about sharing your ideas?
