You can type in just about any title and get a lexile level. There should be a chart on the site that helps you convert a lexile number to an approximate grade level.
Having said that--lexile isn't really always| all that accurate. It says A Wrinkle in Time is some low lexile number around 700, I think. This would lead you to believe that you could read this book with fifth graders. Nothing is further from the truth! The concepts in that book make it AT LEAST an eighth grade read. Okay, maybe seventh. But definitely not fifth. This is because lexile uses syntax, sentence length, and some | | vocabulary screening to arrive at their levels. I do think you need to take these things into consideration, but themes really must be considered when levelling a book. I once heard that Where the Wild Things Are (a picture book, if you're not familiar) lexiles at an eleventh grade level! It's because it uses really long, complex sentences. So lexile isn't a magic bullet, certainly, but it can help you level books. Just use your common sense along with it.
I am the most accurate book-leveler I know. I can glance through a book and pretty much give you the level, in just a minute. I bet you can, too. I almost never use anything else.
