Bad Day
By sunshine1

Clip to ScrapBook
Yes. When it rains it pours. It seems there is never a day with just one incident. It always turns into a crazy day. My friend is a social worker at a neighboring school. We carpool so my schedule depends on hers. It
seems that when she has one crisis, there are more to be found that day. As a classroom teacher, my advice is to develop a "plan B" to your subbing days. For example, when I know I will be out, sometimes I purchase some really good candy or leave a case of soda. I leave a challenge problem that is possible but tough, for the sub to use if needed. If things start to get crazy, the sub
can give the problem and as a reward for the first with the right answer, they can hand out a soda or candy. This is a really great way to either free up time to deal with tough kids or calm the class down. If you are to be with the same class for multiple days, you can form some kind of point system for eligibility. I hate bribery, but on tough days, it can really work!
