Here is what "Camp Learned A Lot" shouldn't

Here is what "Camp Learned A Lot" shouldn't be.....

Beginning on the 17th of April each child in our third grade class had to "earn" a letter in C-A-M-P L-E-A-R-N-E-D A L-O-T. They had until May 11th to earn all
their letters.

To "receive an official invitation to Camp Learned-a-Lot" each day, based on your child's behavior and attitude in class the I(the teacher) will give him/her one letter on his/her Camp card. If your child has a problem in class, he/she will not receive a letter for that day. Students will not be given letters if they get their folders signed for any reason. For example,
if your child does not return his/her homework on time, he/she will not earn a letter for that day. Behavior in the cafeteria, at specials, and outside at recess will also be considered. There will be two extra days during April that your child may try to earn the letters that he/she has not earned. The last day that your child may earn a letter for his/her card will be May 11. (This is directly from the letter that came home on April 13........)

Now between the letter sent home and today the rules have changed on occasion...for example, Track and Field day which was last Friday...no letters were awarded, also this Thursday will be an out of town field trip and the kids were told today that letters will not be awarded unless one of the children misbehaves, then everyone else will get a letter and that child will not........

The reward for earning all 15 letters is the "Official Invitation" for a sleep over at (public) school beginning on Friday, May 12th, at 6:00 PM and ending @ 8:00 AM Saturday morning.

So, tonight my 504 former IDEA child informed me that he gives up. Said his only chance would be if something happens on the field trip and it isn't his fault and he has a chance to earn a letter. Never mind that he worked really hard ALL YEAR long and even managed to string together two and even once or twice three weeks of no write ups in his folder....

And before anyone replies....the answer is no, this isn't the type of teacher/person I would want my son spending the night with....

In my twenty plus years of being a SpedEd parent thank God I have only run across teachers like this a few times, for the most part we have had some really awesome ones who stood shoulder to shoulder with us through the good times as well as the rough times...
