In Florida we test at the end of February. In third grade if they don't pass the reading they don't go to fourth. We don't receive the scores back until the beginning of May (As of now no scores for the reading and math part). They may be promoted to 4th if they meet a good cause exemption. They can also go to summer school and retest or if they pass the NRT they can go on. It's extremly stressful and a lot of pressure on 8 year olds. It's hard to teach everything by the end of February. Now we are just going back to what was already taught and making sure they truly understand it since we have to go so quickly. We spend the last 2 1/2 months of school doing a few more projects and "fun" stuff.
