1-2-3 Magic

I read this book today, 1-2-3 Magic. If you have access to a bookstore, check it out. It is an easy to implement, cost free technique. Maybe it will work for you and this child. I am reading Teaching with Love & Logic now. Will let you know about it when I'm finished. However, it seems that most techniques involve setting limits (expectations) and consequences, but these two books emphasize how to maintain a healthy, nurturing relationship with the student while still being firm.
Sounds like you are doing just that, but maybe there is something in a book like one of these that can help you.
