Starting with a standard you discuss with your students how they would demonstrate their learning. They would then retell in their own words what a successful product should look like. The standards from one 3rd grade room to another would be the same but the criteria charts would be different because they represent the voices of the students. They are then used as a tool for the students to refer to and the rubric would help them refine their products in order to attain a certain grade but more importantly to provide the very best product that they are capable of.
