lit. groups By rb

I have run my lit groups the same as you. I had all six groups meet all at once. I pick a genre and/or author and have multiple sets of books.. I introduce the unit, do book talks on the books and let kids write down their| first two choices of what they would like to read. I set the groups. Because I am new at this, I make an assignment calendar with what I think is reasonable readings for each book. I give a bit of time on off group days to read and do assignments to bring to lit. groups. I grade group packets 25 points and the students rate each other for another 10 points (privately done away from | | groups) I usually have lit groups on Tuesday and Friday. I think as I add more books to lit circle topics, I develop specific packets for certain books, but for the time being I have a generic group packet for each genre. I try to do a six books a year like this. For some reason this year, I have done a lot more whole class readings and mixed individual and class assignments in. I feel better about what is being learned when the book is tougher. I love laura candler's site. It is how I got started a few years agoi.
