question for you By BetsyC

I also try to keep away from worksheet after worksheet. Do the grade levels at your school have group planning? For example, in my grade (third) I write math plans, someone else writes reading, someone else writes English,| and so on. Some of the other teachers on my team have complained that they do not like my plans because I plan too many "learning activities." (aka - hands on learning and cooperative groups) They said that they can't teach with learning activities and actually told me they wanted worksheets instead. I found this to be very discouraging. I wrote math plans for four years at the | | first school I worked in and never had any complaints. The principal always complimented my plans and used them as examples for others. I do use worksheets some, so I'm not saying that worksheets should be considered "illegal." :) Do you have problems like this with your coworkers? Another problem with cooperative planning is that the person in charge of each subject also turns in copies to be made for her subject. Sometimes I have fifteen or more worksheets for one week that I never use! The county I teach in does have a mandated curriculum which requires us to administer formal tests several times a grading period. I think that because of this some teachers feel it is important that we all do the same things in our subjects.
Because the others wanted more worksheets, I did start to include more worksheets with my math plans. To be honest it sure saves me a great deal of time when writing plans when I'm only using the textbook and worksheets as resources. (I still do my own thing for my kiddos.) The thing is, this week we were talking about who would plan for which subject next year and they want me to do math again. I don't understand why they are asking me to continue when they haven't liked what I've done so far.
Anyway, I guess I'm part venting and part asking has anyone experienced this problem. If so, how do you handle yourself in a group of teachers whose teaching philosophy differs from yours so greatly and who plans together?
Thanks for the opportunity to vent! :)
Betsy
