Hi Frank,

What grade are you teaching? I am sure that you are feeling quite overwhelmed by the demands of teaching. Has your Co-op given you any specific suggestions? I cannot imagine you being expected to figure
out a plan without guidance!

Absences have been a problem for my 6th graders. So much illness, with some kids out for a whole week. I have my kids take responsibility for making up their assignments and tests. My students sit in groups and must record assignments (class and home) for those who are absent. Several students have taken work to their absent classmates and other times

parents have picked up assignments. Tests that need to be taken are placed in a specific basket (with student's name on it).

Also, I keep an updated printout of assignments with missing assignments and tests circled in red. Students need to let me know when they want to make up the test. I have "divider walls" that students can use if they choose to take any tests during class time. They can come to class to make up assignments or receive help during their lunch recess.

I would go crazy if I didn't have my kids take some of the responsibility. I know it's not easy when you have to answer to so many people, especially when you don't have your own class. Trust me, it will work itself out when you have your own class!
