I've found that basal programs tend to shy away from calling them "sight words" and instead call them "high frequency words" and usually the words they pick stink. The first week of school, my first graders were supposed to learn the "high frequency word": OH. Words like BIKE and GRASS came up in the first couple months and they are just not appropriate when there are so many others that show up so much more!! I use Fry's list, but as another responder said, it does look a lot like Dolch.
