how about an illustration for the word?

When we do vocab, I have kids do "freaky flashcards". One part of the flashcard they have to draw a picture related to the word and then write a sentence about the picture using the word. Example - the vocabulary word was "stench" so they drew a picture of an outhouse and wrote a sentence like "The STENCH from the outhouse was outrageous."
