If you don't know the shower recipient very well, you probably won't really be missed if you don't show up. At our school some showers can be a pretty busy "everyone's there" affair, so if you don't go, people don't really

notice. You can say you had an appointment at that time (after school) and had to dash out if someone asks. If you feel like you need to bring food, offer to bring cheese and just put a small pack of cubes on a plate. When everyone brings stuff there is more than enough to eat anyway. We all need to scale back on this feasting anyway--empty calories and extra pounds are not good things!

I don't think it makes you a bad person to be thrifty and careful with the precious coins you earn at that job. Strive to not let others bully you into to doing more than you are comfortable with regarding showers and such.
