playground supervisors
By tia

Clip to ScrapBook
i teach in a k-6 school, in our state's capital; it's the state's second largest district....like, 32 elementaries?

my school is about 400 students (little less) and about 40 staff members.

we have 1 principal,
no vice, 1 secretary, and 2 playground supervisors (2 playgrounds--1 primary on west side of building, intermediate on other) these supervisors are paid positions and they have been "trained". the positions are only part time, and some of that time they work in the office helping our secretary.

VERY VERY RARELY are we asked to cover recess if NOONE else is available.....and
it's on volunteer basis (against contract...although, i just read somewhere that our contract does stipulate that in emergencies we MAY be asked to cover)

also, in the gymateria during lunch, we have 1 custodian and 2 paras (who switch duty throughout the lunch hour) who cover lunch duty.

i've read posts of teachers who have to do recess duty and eat with their kids----blah!

when i student taught, the school i was at had shared recess duty and we had to teach our own PE. eek! i think i've got it good! (PE twice a week, taught by PE specialist; music twice a week taught by specialist; library once a week taught by librarian; and.....i used to whine about this because it cut into my instruction time, but i've warmed up to the idea of an additional prep--counselor comes in once a week to teach a lesson)

:s) :s) :s) :s) (a little excessive on the umbrellas, i know---the forecast for the next 10 days is RAIN!!!!!) ugh--so far, even though it's rained for the first 2 days back from SB, we've escaped rainy day recess!

oh my gosh! i couldn't post my original message because i had too many "smilies"!!!! (umbrellas) huh. how 'bout that! i feel deprived.....
