I know what you mean. Our grade-level always pools money and gets one gift, usually a gift-card. (Max. of 5 bucks/each AND thoughtful). If I'm tired, I simply stop by the event (held at school, after buscall), sign the guest book, smile, and leave. At my age, I'm done with what who thinks about what I do. As long as I can feel at peace with my decisions, what else really matters?

As for fund-raisers, I've never solicited for my children. After a few years of trying to be a "good friend", I realized I was doing my own children a disservice. Why should I buy from others at school while preaching the problems with this at home? No more. Unless it's something I can't live without (like Girl Scout cookies! ), I don't buy!
