Canadian vs American $$$

My reaction is similar to my previous fellow Canadian poster. Some of the figures that have been quoted sound low by comparison.

However there may be other huge differences as well. There is a difference between
"American dollars" and "Canadian dollars." As well I am not sure how our training, education etc. equates --- college degree, university degree, honours degree etc. Perhaps the length of the school year is also a factor. I don't know for sure but based on other things I have read on these boards I think I work about about 20 -25 days more than some districts in the States.

Having
said all that I too will date myself --- I think my starting salary was around $11,000 (Canadian). I rented a furnished, 1 bedroom basement apartment for $150 / month. My guess is that apartment would now rent for atleast $800. That's about 5 times as much as I paid --- and yes current salaries for the most highly qualified have increased more than 5 times in the same time frame.

Maybe another question to ask is how much do you get to keep? My gross pay is quite different from my net pay. :o
