recess first

At my school only two grade levels, mine included, have recess first. We did this out of necessity of scheduling reading blocks, intervention blocks, math blocks, etc. We flip flop with another group. We have recess for 30min while they eat lunch for 30min. We then come in and go to lunch while they have recess. I like it because my students are calmer after eating and they eat a better lunch, instead of rushing through to get outside like they used to in the past. We have 30min total for the lunch time but my class always returns to class to wash before going to the lunchroom - less line this way too.
