To: Reading Without Gains:
You can test her short term memory by asking her to do a series of verbal sequenced directions. If she can't do them in order or doesn't remember--You must do at least 10 set of 3 directions.
Also ask the mom to do them at home--Have mom give her 3 directions, pick your toys up, put your clothes in the hamper, fold the towels. All the directions must be given at the same time. See if she can execute them in order. If you want a standardized normed reference test, give her the Detroit Test of Learning Aptitude. DTLA--published by ProEd in Austin Texas. Before you know whether
the child has a short term memory problem or that you can apply that to her reading difficulties you must test it out.
