recess first

our school made the switch about 3 years ago--only a couple parents whined (as with all change, everyone isn't always happy, but after a couple years, people get used to it and forget it was every any different)
the kids who REALLY hated it were the sixth graders (my group)--they just wouldn't let it go...oh well.
we switched for the same reasons it appears to be working out:
*kids are eating more food (less waste/less garbage/more nutrition)---which i kind of worry about, being a devil's advocate--are they eating too much now?
*they are calmer coming into the classroom (not fresh | |
from recess squabbles) so less wasted teaching time
one concern of mine: i used to have them wash hands in our room and then go to caf, but now i just make them wash before going out to recess because i know they won't stop as they come in through the bathroom to wash. better than nothing....
