word callers
By Kiki

Clip to ScrapBook
We call these kids word callers. They have terrific fluency but no comprehension. I stress to them that it is very important for them to make notes or underline key ideas in the text. Now, I know they can't do this in their text book but, on our TEST they can. I also encourage reading very short passages with them. That said, go for the short-term memory test. That will allow you to better accommodate the child.
