I find that each year is different according to my group. Each year, however, I do have children sign in first thing. Last year following sign in, we did the Pledge and handwriting. (after January) There is a neat handwriting exercise someone taught me. It follows a poem and movements. We then moved to the calendar for our opening routine, calendar, reading Morning Message, sharing the travelling animal journal, a color game, and a song. Our Class Meeting followed that.
