Clip to ScrapBook
I send home a review packet of math facts practice (1 addition sheet, 1 subtraction sheet, and a review of a concept we learned that week) a home reading record sheet (15 minutes a night), a phonics practice ditto, and a story
problem paper. The story problem paper is a lined sheet of paper with a space at the top to draw a picture to go with the word problem they created. They also have to include the equation to match their word problem. We practice this process daily in class for 3-4 weeks before I send it home for them to do independently. For example:

Susie has four red balloons and six green balloons.

How many balloons does she have in all? 4+6=10 balloons
Then the child would draw a picture to match the word problem they wrote.

I staple all the pages together and send the whole packet home on Friday and they bring it back the following Thursday. That gives them the weekend to do it if they wish and most parents have told me that the children usually finish most of it over the weekend when they are more rested and the parent is available to help. The format of the packet stays the same for the entire year.
