homework
By Julianne

Clip to ScrapBook
The traditional rule of thumb is 10 minutes of homework per night per grade level. Thus, first graders would have 10 minutes of work, second graders 20 minutes, etc. I think this turns out to be just about right. My partner and I trade off nights, assigning math two nights per week, language arts on two other nights. No homework on Fridays as it never gets back on Monday anyway. We send a variety of things, worksheets, simple math games to play with a parent, spelling words to study. We strive for some variety so parents and children don't become bored with the work. We ask parents to read with their child as a regular thing and don't really consider this part of their "homework". Every parent should read to or listen to their child's reading.
