homework
By Colleen

Clip to ScrapBook
I am not a fan of a lot of homework. When I first started teaching homework for first graders was a rare occurance. With first grade parents lots of school routines are new for them. I have a weekly homework sheet that tells
what work is due at the end of the week. I usually give spelling, math and reading for the week. Many of my kids can do the written stuff in 5 minutes for the week . The most important thing for kids this age is to have them read or be read to each evening at home. I would gladly give up the worksheets if all my parents would read to their kids. However, most parents think that
if the work is not written it is not homework.(My high schooler thinks that too when it comes to studying!)Some parents complain that I don't give enough homework. They should enjoy it while they can because sooner or later their kid will get a teacher that piles it on and they will not have a home-life until summer vacation.
