friendship bracelets

Your big buddy could help the Gr 1 decorate a box or a white bakery bag for a valentine mailbox. Gr 1's aren't so good at cutting hearts out. I use doilies, wallpaper, ribbon, stickers, glitter, whatever, to make the mailbox look fancy. I also get my class to make a valentine scrapbook out of construction paper, to save their valentines in. Perhaps your class could help with that project. Gr 1's love to dance, the older kids might enjoy a "sock hop" with their little buddies. Or how about using some of the great beads available now, and stringing them into friendship bracelets, one for each - big buddy and small. They could use fluffy craft pipecleaners to make it easier for the Gr 1. Making a pattern of beads would comply nicely with the math curriculum.
