Since your luau is a reward for A.R. goals be sure to have books on hand about Hawaii! Foods that are part of Hawaii could include pineapple, kiwi, papaya, coconut, sushi rolls (some chinese/japanese restaurants offer this
now) dried fish (depending on where you live might find some in stores). Also, see if you can find some authentic Hawaiian music. Celio and Kapono are one duo that comes to mind off the top of my head. May be able to find something on net. For leis, you could cut out construction paper flowers for kids to string. Blue Hawaii (Elvis) or the little blue guy from space that was an animated
movie in Hawaii - some Hawaiian words and music are used in the movie - also has the book out. You could get a small plastic pool and fill with sand for your beach - use sand to make sand art in bottles or a sand art picture. Have kids wear flowered or other Hawaiian-style shirts or they could bring in white t-shirts and tye-die them. Allow kids to wear flip-flops during this time.Use net to find Hawaiian games. Sounds like a lot of fun!
