what to lose

Clip to ScrapBook
In math, I think there is a lot of geometry we could do without. Why do we really need to know rotations, reflections, and and translations? Why do they need to know lines, segments, and rays? It's really hard to make
the kids see the relevance. In language arts, I agree that cursive writing could go. Business letters? I always end up looking up the format or using a template to make sure I'm getting it right anyway. Our students are supposed to be able to write in a variety of forms, including a journal entry and letter to the editor. I think it's fine to write for those purposes, but to suggest
that it must follow a particular format is silly. I also think things like complete subjects, simple subjects, complete predicates, simple predicates are time wasters.
