A couple of things come to mind...
By Susan/IN

Clip to ScrapBook
We were just talking about this in the teachers' lunch room just before Christmas. We have a couple things in our state standards @ 3rd grade that had the teachers thinking about this. One was cursive writing. It is a
standard at 3rd grade in our state that all students will have mastered cursive writing. We have some students who just have not picked this up yet. Many teachers insist that students write in cursive but for some it is so labored that they don't get their assignments finished. When we started talking, we all agreed that when it comes to daily living, you are almost ALWAYS asked to PRINT.
The only thing they want in cursive is your signature. I'm not advocating NOT teaching cursive, but I think perhaps a change should be looked at. The other thing we were all complaining about is that no matter how much we dwell on it, students do not indent when writing a paragraph. Again, we started talking about all the print we see and the majority is in block writing, so the students aren't really seeing a lot of what we are trying to encourage them to do.

These were just a couple things that came to mind. I'm sure there's more! Good luck with your assignment!
