Trophies By gabanndor

We use Trophies at out district as well. I think that it is kind of like "Teaching Reading for Dumbies." It is very well laid out and is functional for teaching a new series. In AZ. Trophies matches our curriculum, so| we don't have to prove that we are following the curriculum. I moved down last year from the upper grades and had no problem working with what they expected. A couple of things that I would like to change: Writing - I feel that they need to understand 6 Traits and how to work with them before they are expected to write using 6 Traits. Grammar - we spend about 2 months reviewing capatialization | | and abbrevations. It seems to be overkill for me. I understand that they need to know certain words should be capatilized and that some can be abbrevated, but 2 months is too long. I introduce the grammar topic for the week and my kids ask, "Again?" I do really like the whole program. We have reading coaches and teachers that pull our intervention students for more intensive work and these guys really benefit from that. The program also has many supplementals that aid in Guided Reading and Read Alouds. I also don't feel that it is too difficult for the students.
